Creating space for things that matter - Issue #36
I don’t think I understood the term of accountability till a few years back. I just woke up one day and realised that the life I dreamt of was very far. I was always creating excuses for myself and lying to myself constantly. I guess I just went cold turkey and started experimenting with different accountability and measurement systems to work towards what I want in life.
The past few months have been transformative for me. Here are some changes I made and how they impacted me:
I’ve started working with a personal trainer
After long years of ignoring my health, a pandemic and some major health scares, I concluded that enough was enough. I was very unsatisfied with the way that I looked and felt. And because I had low motivation, I thought a personal trainer would help. It’s been four months now. As it turns out, I am training for my first Spartan Race.
Living my childhood dream in US
Since I was a kid, I’ve always dreamt of moving to the US. This year, my co-founder and I went to the US to expand our company there! We’re so stoked about it! We’ve spent a month and a half travelling the East and West Coast. I can finally say we found a place. However, this wouldn’t have happened if my co-founder and I didn’t start an honest and long conversation about what we wanted our company and lives to look at in the following decade.
Being protective of my time
One of the most valuable things that I’ve learnt by far as an entrepreneur is that you have to be ruthless in what you give your attention to. And it took me a long while to understand that. Too long if you ask me. After visiting New York City and falling in love with it, I’ve decided to watch some of Casey Neistat’s videos - and I saw that he launched a website for himself where he wrote a personal manifesto about how to contact him and the importance of time. There it was an article linked to a piece written by Ryan Holiday - I will leave you with a short excerpt that is representative of this time in my life:
Accountability
I’ve been procrastinating on picking up this newsletter again. That's because I’ve been feeling bad for missing out on it for a while now, even though it’s titled the Weekly Newsletter. So this is me being accountable. I’ve set up a daily routine in Notion so here we are. Back on track! Let me know if you would be interested in seeing and using my template. I am currently focusing on 3 key things that I am doing daily, but I might add another one soon. It has been a wonderful experience for me and ticking the boxes every day makes me excited!
Getting out of the comfort zone
When I took a moment to reflect on my life, I concluded that the key turning points in my life were when I put myself out there. So I thought it was high time to do it more. For the past several months or so I’ve started reaching out to people I have not spoken to before, creating connections, exchanging ideas and moving forward. I think the most unusual thing I did was that I was sitting in Palo Alto at a Starbucks and I overheard 2 people talking about investments in startups I asked whether they would be ok to give me some feedback on my deck. Guess what? I got a yes.
What’s next?
I’m back on the Weekly Newsletter - already sketched out the next newsletters
I’ve created an Instagram account specifically for my reading/writing passion. You can follow me here. You will only get book-related things, book reviews, reading, writing routines and maybe some journaling.
Things I’ve been enjoying:
The soundtrack I’ve been listening to while I work when I want to listen to music
The Daily Stoic Youtube Channel - My life exploration brought me to a place where I’m interested in ancient teachings. I never knew I would be interested in stoicism, but his content is a reminder of how I can be a better leader, partner, and friend, and how can I make a difference and also enjoy life.
A favourite quote of lately: “Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself.” - Marcus Aurelius
